PLT Competition - FOOD COLLECTION |
| Posted by: KristineL3 on 10/30/2008 22:47 PM (Read: ) |

Mr. Czmowski is organizing a food drive beginning Sat 10/18/08 through Sat 12/13/08. We will be collecting non-perishable food items on behalf of the Elks Lodge, who will then in turn create the food baskets and hand them out to families in need for the holidays.
Each platoon will be competing against each other to see who can bring in the most food. Recruit platoon will also be participating. The platoon who has the heaviest collection box is the one that wins the streamer for their guidon.
Mr. Czmowski will be at the Sign In/Out table each drill collecting food items from the YMs and Recruits and making sure they get in the correct platoon boxes!
Assistance will be needed the morning of Saturday 12/20/08 from 0830-1030 - we'll need to help the Elks get the food boxes from their staging area to the hallways for distribution. [Community service hours!!]

Wreath Fundraiser Going On Now! |
| Posted by: KristineL3 on 09/28/2008 17:51 PM (Read: ) |

It's getting to feel a lot like winter! Our winter fundraiser will be a wreath fundraiser. Last year this was a good fundraiser. This year we are adding a "twist" to make it a great fundraiser.
This year, you will be able to sell wreaths two different ways:
#1 -- You can sell sponsorships for "Wreaths Across America". This is a program that places wreaths at all National Cemeteries across the U.S. Our National Cemetery is Willamette National. We will also have an opportunity to go and actually place wreaths when the time is appropriate. Buyers who sponsor wreaths need to make checks payable to "Wreaths Across America", and a sponsorship pin should be given as their receipt.
#2 -- You can sell wreaths, swags and garland to friends, neighbors, and family members. These greenery are extremely fresh. One of our YM families kept their wreath up until March and it was still extremely fresh and great smelling. Buyers who purchase wreaths for personal use should make any checks payable to LCYM.
Each YM is required to sell any combination of 10 wreaths. Selling materials will be distributed at drill on October 4th. Final sales must be turned in at drill on November 15, 2008.
DELIVERY of wreaths to the YMs will take place at Wednesday Study Night on December 3rd.
If you have any questions, please contact your parent-fundraiser chairman, which is Christy Cruz at 541-513-6466 or Ms. Wood, Parent Liaison, at 503-997-7766. |

Cost will be $11/tee shirt which is just pennies more than we pay for it. There is no profit margin for us on this tee shirt.
Sales are through Ms. Lisa Wood, Supply Officer - Clothing. She can be reached at either supply{at}lcym.org or 503-997-7766.

PARENT MEETINGS |
| Posted by: KristineL3 on 09/10/2008 11:52 AM (Read: ) |

Parent Meetings continue to be every other month on the first drill of the month beginning at approximately 0815. This is a good time to come find out any new stuff, ask questions, get clarifications, share concerns (constructively), make suggestions, etc.
It's also nice for staff to have a dialogue with the parents to make sure we're all on the same page and we're moving forward for the benefit of the children in our unit. With a unit this size, staff sometimes feels disconnected with the parents and these meetings are a wonderful time for us to meet face to face and get to know one another.
Beginning in November, coffee and pastries will be provided! Yummy!
The meeting dates are as follows:
November 1
January 10, 2009
March 7
May 2
July 11
September 5 (if drill held, otherwise September 19)

About the Young Marines
The Young Marines is the official youth program of the Marine Corps League. Founded in 1958 to promote the mental, moral and physical development of young Americans, the Young Marines offer a variety of activities specifically designed to develop greater self-esteem, discipline and self-confidence in its members.
Character building is one of the most important objectives of the Young Marine program, and all of its activities emphasize the importance of honesty, courage, respect, loyalty, dependability, and a sense of devotion to God, country, community and family.
In July of 1993, the United States Marine Corps officially designated the Young Marines program as “the focal organization for fulfilling its participation in the Department of Defense’s drug demand reduction activities.”
Young Marines make a pledge to maintain a drug free lifestyle and are encouraged to influence family, friends, and schoolmates to share this commitment.
