MARINE CORPS SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION
 The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation has provided more than 25,000 scholarships and $60,000,000 to children whose parents are active duty, reserve, retired, veteran Marines and Navy Corpsmen. Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be: The son/daughter of one of the following:
An active duty or reserve U. S. Marine
A U.S. Marine who has served at least 90 days and has received an honorable discharge, medical discharge, or was killed while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps
An active duty or reserve U.S. Navy Corpsman who is serving, or has served, with the U.S. Marine Corps
A U.S. Navy Corpsman who has served with the U.S. Marine Corps and has received an honorable discharge, medical discharge, or was killed while serving in the U.S. Navy
AND
A high school graduate, or registered as an undergraduate student studying for a first bachelor's degree at an accredited college, or at a post-high school vocational/technical institution (Scholarship awards are not available for graduate study.)
AND
The eligible applicant has a maximum family adjusted gross income of $80,000 or less. The limit increases by $10,000 if an applicant's sibling also applies. For the purpose of determining eligibility, non-taxable allowances received by military members on active duty are NOT included in determining adjusted gross income. This income limit requirement is waived for any applicant whose parent was killed in combat in the Global War on Terror.

Most Valuable Student Competition
 Applications for the Elks National Foundation's 2009 Most Valuable Student contest will be available beginning September 1, 2008, at your local Elks Lodge, online [click here] or by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the Foundation. Applications for the 2009 contest have to be submitted to your local Elks Lodge by January 9, 2009.
The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2009 competition.
- Any high school senior who is a citizen of the United States is eligible to apply.
- Applicants need not be related to a member of the Elks.
- College students are not eligible to apply.
- Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are signed; resident alien status does not qualify.
- Male and female students compete separately.
- Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need.
All scholarships are in the form of certificates of award conditional upon the full-time enrollment of the winner in an accredited U.S. college or university.
Applications must advance through local, district and state competition to reach the national competition. The Chicago office of the Elks National Foundation will announce the 500 national winners, and notify them in writing, around April 15, 2009. (Many local Lodges, districts and state Elks associations award their own scholarships through this program. These scholarships are not to be confused with the 500 Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarships.)

Ranging from $1,000 per year to $15,000 per year, Most Valuable Student scholarships are for students pursuing a four-year degree, on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 semester hours), in a U.S. American college or university.
Requests for additional information should be addressed to the scholarship chairman of the local Lodge or of the Elks association of the state in which the applicant is a resident.

The Legacy Awards
Following is a partial list of answers to common questions about the Elks National Foundation's ENF Legacy Awards scholarship contest. [See the rest here]
Through its three scholarship programs, the Elks National Foundation awards more than $3.6 million a year in college scholarships.
Starting in 2009, Legacy Awards will be four-year, $4,000 scholarships. The Foundation will offer a total of up to 250 awards.

Who is Eligible?
1. Any child or grandchild (or step-child, step-grandchild, or legal ward) of a living Elk who joined the order on or before April 1, 2006, or a charter member of a Lodge that was instituted on or after April 1, 2006, is eligible to apply. The Elk must also be a paid-up member through March 31, 2009. Great-grandchildren are not eligible.
2. The applicant must be a high school senior.
3. The applicant must apply through the related member's Elks Lodge, regardless of where the applicant resides.
4. If the applicant's parent and grandparent are both Elk members, the applicant must apply through the parent's Elks Lodge.
5. Students may apply for more than one ENF scholarship; however, they may win only one. In cases where the student qualifies for more than one, we will award the scholarship with the greater value.
6. Legacy Awards may only be applied to accredited US American schools, colleges or universities. (Note: Applicants from Guam, Panama, Puerto Rico and the Philippines may apply Legacy Awards toward schools, colleges or universities in their respective homes.)
7. Applicants must take the Scholastic Aptitude Test or the American College Test by December 31, 2008.
